Converse x John Varvatos “Chuck Taylor Low Profile” Review
I’m not the one that usually complain about shoes but I feel this complaint is viable. I’m a big fan of Converse and have gone thru the chuck phase quite a few times. I’m also a big fan of low profile sole so when the Converse x John Varvatos were released It was all over it. thin sole chucks, why didn’t they think of this a long time ago?

Since the shoes are considered “designer” of course the consumer is going to be hit with a high mark up ($100). Well you can definitely expect high quality materials / make and fit right? not necessarily, at least in my case.

I bought these shoes a few months ago and was completely satisfied at time of purchase. The shoes not only looked different from your regular chuck taylor but they were also x20 more comfortable. The extra eyelets and clear gum sole gave it extra and unique characteristics.

The honeymoon was over when I noticed the gum soles adhesive was coming off causing the sole to completely fall off. How on earth does this happen? Did i just end up with a defected pair? Well I took the shoes back and explained my concern and the sales person was kind enough to swap em’  free or charge.

I’ve been wearing the new pair for 2-3 months (at the most) and yes it happened again. I’m discouraged Converse would release a so called “designer” shoe without inspecting / quality controlling the product. Converse isn’t the only one to blame shame on you Varvatos for putting your “designer” name on these poorly made shoes.

If the sole wasn’t bad enough the inside stitching is coming off as well. pfff!

To think that I was close to buying the Converse x John Varvatos Purcell’s edition, I’m glad I didn’t. Lesson learned: High priced, so called “designer” items aren’t necessarily quality made items.
Overall Rating: 1/5
UPDATE 4/24/09: I walked into the John Varvatos store in South Coast Plaza and explained my situation to the sales person. After a few minutes of talking about the current collection and my shoes the assosiate agreed to exchange my shoes for a new pair. Unfortunately the store was out of the style/size but he seemed certain that within 1 week he will be calling me for the echange. Let’s see how it goes..
